Nassau is a now torn-down and demolished Staten Island Railway station. It and its formerly neighboring station Atlantic were closed on January 21, 2017 with all remains of the station now demolished.
It was one of the two most decrepit Staten Island Railway Stations. This is because Nassau wasn't given the standard SIR renovation so before it closed – since the new Arthur Kill station was already in the planning stages in the 1980s – so it still had two short concrete platforms with an ancient looking railing. Passengers had to be in the last car of trains to get on and off at this statin. Trains stopped in a way that only the one door was keyed open by the conductor to allow passengers to get on and off. The platform might have been able to accommodate 2 or 3 cars (and was extended in the 1970s, they were longer than the platforms at Atlantic) but the northern end of each platform were closed off by concrete barriers.
The only access to the station was from a decrepit looking footbridge at the northern (eastern) end of each side platform. There was a very tiny portion of the platform that is sheltered on each platform right near the overpass where each platform has a single bench.
This footbridge began at the northern dead end of Nassau Place (directly alongside the level of the tracks), with vacant space (but no footpath) between the dead end and the Tottenville-bound platform (I wonder if a siding was once here?), this was followed by the staircase down to the Tottenville-bound platform, before the footbridge ended about half-way from the level of the platforms along St. Andrews Place where this street curved and becomes Bethel Avenue, a short staircase next to the end of the footbridge led to the St. George-bound platform. All of this has been demolished and removed with basically no traces of the former station remaining as of 2024, except the fence in the area of the former station looks patched because its newer.
