Middleborough/Lakeville is currently the terminus of this namesake line, although most Commuter Rail service will likely be discontinued in May 2025 when service is relocated to a new Middleborough Station at Pilgrim Junction (about one mile north of the station) when the South Coast Rail Project is completed. This will result in trains rerouted as part of new extensions to Fall River or New Bedford. This station will continue to be on the route used by the CapeFLYER and I assume seasonal service will continue at this station because no CapeFlYER platform is being built along the existing tracks at the new Middleborough Station.

The present station is a Transit Oriented Development success story – which makes the closer of the station feel short-sighted – with multiple new apartment/town home developments being built in walking distance of the station and clearly visible just beyond the stations 769 space parking lot.

Along the north side of the station’s parking lots is the station’s single platform for the single-track rail line. The line is the terminus of Commuter Rail service but tracks continue to Wareham and Cape Cod, used by the seasonal Cape Cod Flyer. Terminating trains that don’t immediately turn-around for another round-trip to Boston deadhead north of the station to the Kelios Layover Yard near Pilgrim Junction that is on the opposite side of the new parking lot for the new Middleborough MBTA station.

The station’s high-level platform is at the same level as the parking lot, with the tracks depressed and at a lower grade than the parking lot. The single platform contains a simple 3 car long metal canopy structure coving about 3 cars. The rest of the platform is exposed with various Middleborough/Lakeville signs above built in benches. The platform canopy is alongside the station’s Drop Off and Pick Up loop (plus a bus stop for very limited GATRA bus service), a line of bollards prevents drivers from driving onto the platform. The northern end of the platform is alongside a secondary road that leads around to the station’s parking lot with some grassy green space (I assume for stormwater management) between a large portion of the parking lot and platform.
