Zeregra Avenue is a 6 train Westchester elevated station that was closed for renovations from July 5, 2014, to April 27, 2015 and received the typical renovations with green and cream colored windscreens and a renovated station house. When I last visited the station in 2011 the platform walls were a wreck of white peeling paint, with peeling paint all over the platform and on the corrugated-style windscreens. The columns holding up the platform canopies were painted blue back then.
The station has two side platforms for the three-track line with the middle track unused in passenger service, except for GO diversions that require trains to bypass the station. The middle track is used also for yard moves between the Westchester Yard and Parkchester. These platforms are canopied for e northern two thirds of their length, with the northern thirds of the platforms exposed to the elements. There is also a small portion of exposed platform at their northern ends, with slightly more at the last car of the Manhattan-bound platform since the platforms were extended in a way that makes trains stop about half a car length offset from each other. The exposed portions of the platform still have their original 1920 platform railings. The column signs (pre-renovations) I found hilarious since they said “Zer Av.”
The station’s only exit is at about the second to the front car on Pelham Bay Park-bound trains (last car on Manhattan-bound trains) at nearly the norther end of the platform. Two staircases lead down from each platform to a station house beneath the tracks. This station house contains a small fare control area and streetstairs lead down to the SE and NW corners of Westchester Avenue and Zerega Avenue.
