St James North is a stop for Northbound trains only along North 1st Street. Southbound trains stop one block away in the middle of St James Park on 2nd Street. Trains run along the right-hand side of the one-way street, opening their doors on the left to a transit platform shared with buses, not along the regular sidewalk. The station is modern (and was rebuilt since the its opening on June 17, 1988) with two different step up 'platforms' for the low-floor LRVs each with a single silver canopy structure with St James North written in Silver letters. The platform begins with trains stopping close to the intersection of St John Street and run north, with a sidewalk between the rail track and traffic lanes running north to St. James Street.
