St James South is a stop for Southbound trains only along North 2nd Street which cuts through the middle of St James Park. Trains here run along parallel one-way streets through downtown San Jose. Trains run along the right side of the street, opening their doors on the left to a transit platform shared with buses, not along the regular sidewalk. The station is modern (and was rebuilt since the its opening on June 17, 1988) with two different step-up 'platforms' for the low-floor LRVs each with a single silver canopy structure with St James South written in Silver letters. The platform begins with trains stopping close to the intersection of St John Street and run north, with a sidewalk between the rail track and traffic lanes running north to St. James Street.
