Santa Clara South is a stop for Southbound trains only along South 2nd Street. Trains run along the right-hand side of the one-way street, opening their doors on the left to a transit platform shared with buses, not along the regular sidewalk. The station is modern (and was rebuilt since the its opening on June 17, 1988) with three different step-up 'platforms' for the low-floor LRVs each with a single silver canopy structure with Santa Carla South written in Silver letters. The platform starts at Santa Clara Street and run south, with a continuous sidewalk between trains and buses (which have a bus lane). The southern end of the platform is across from Fountain Alley that provides a pedestrian walkway and an additional connection to the Santa Clara North on South 1st Street.
