18 Avenue is a standard BMT West End Line elevated station. A block south of the station the train curves off of New Utrecht Avenue onto 86 Street as it continues through Bensonhurst. The stop is a local stop with two side platforms for the three tracks including the middle track that is occasionally used for diversions although it has never seen regular revenue service.
The stop has a single entrance at the middle of the platform where two staircases lead down from each platform to a station house beneath the tracks. here is where the turnstiles and waiting area. 3 streestairs exit station over what is basically a 6-way intersection of New Utrecht Avenue, 18 Avenue and 85 Street, although the actual intersection of 85 Street and 18 Avenue is just west of the station. Two of these streestairs leave the station to the east, to the NE corner of 85 Street and New Utrecht Avenue, and to the SE corner of New Utrecht Avenue and 18 Avenue. A final staircase leads to what is the very short block on the south side of 85 Street between New Utrecht Avenue and 18 Avenue.
The platform is canopied in its mid-section with corrugated cream-colored windscreens while simple low fences are at its extreme ends.
The station was rebuilt using Federal Recovery Act funding in 2012. This renovation replaced with the windscreens with modern cream ones with green accidents. The former low-lying fencing was rebuilt with mesh 8-foot-tall fences. The station house and all streetstairs were rebuilt and repainted.
