Quantico is an extremely complicated historical Amtrak Station because it is one of the only civilian US towns that is surrounded by a large US Marine Corps Base. All vehicular access to the town requires a credential to cross through the marine base to reach the town, that requires showing ID at a visitors center. The ability to simply get off a train, visit the town and leave on the next train (without actually leaving the civilian town) and not needing permission from the Marine Corps is something that your webmaster felt too nervous to do, so all pictures are unfortunately taken out of train windows of this station.
Quantico has received continuous Amtrak service since the creation of Amtrak in 1971, although long distance trains to Florida started skipping the station in the 1990s, with only the Carolinian and nearly all (except one weekday round trip) Northeast Regional trains stopping at the station as of 2025.
The station was recently rebuilt, with rebuilding finishing in November 2025. This including the building of a pedestrian bridge to a new low-level island platform. This island platform is between the two western tracks, with a side platform for the eastern tracks. The pedestrian bridge has elevator/staircases down to both platforms, along with the station's main parking lot (VRE commuters need to sign an agreement with the Marine Corps including agreeing to particular rules and show ID to use the parking lot) on the west side of the tracks. The island platform opened (in Fall 2024) before the bridge was ready with passengers using a temporary walkway between the tracks to the grade-crossing of Potomac Avenue just north of the new platform.
The eastern side platform is where the station's historic 1950's brick station house is located. Inside is a waiting room although I can't figure out if it was reopened in 2025 when the new pedestrian bridge was rededicated (signs in my photos from 2024 say it is closed).
