Leeland Road is a VRE station that was newly built for the line's opening in 1992. The station's single side platform on the west (south in the area of the station) side of the tracks is located in a bit of a open-cut beneath the nearby land topography because of the railroad's underpass of Leeland Road just east (railway north) of the platform.

This platform has the usual wooden pedestrian crossing to the opposite track at its eastern end of the platform. This area of the platform has a small simple bus shelter (where a mobile-lift was once kept in the early days of single-level VRE trains that didn't have on-board wheelchair lifts). The rest of the platform has a single exit under a one-car length canopy structure with a light grey roof. There is a little entrance area with the usual VRE gabled roof with a little cupula. This is where the station's TVMs are. From here a staircase leads directly up to the parking lot at the top of the open cut. There is also a ramp that meanders its way up with a switchback to the top of the staircase, just before a short path to the parking lot. The switchbacking end of the ramp leads to a path to another staircase up to the parking lot. This means there are two paths that start in the parking lot, but they both arrive at the platform within about 10 feet of each other.

The Virginia DOT Park & Ride info website says the station has 1013 parking spaces, although when I visited in 2024 the smaller overflow parking lot, set behind some trees although with the remains of a driveway to the main parking lot with its own entrance on Primmer House Road was closed off and looked like the surface has been reduced to gravel, possibly for repaving or for something else in the reduced-ridership post-COVID 19 commuting world. The main parking lot is still massive with a single driveway entrance along the western side of the parking lot, at the opposite end from the platform from the station's namesake Leeland Road.

The driveway into and out of the parking lot lacks any sidewalks but Leeland Road does have a sidewalk along it that connects the station to a nearby elementary school and some nearby cul-de-sac subdivisions. Some of these cul-de-sacs are very close to the VRE station as the crow flies, two cul-de-sacs are within 300 feet of the station's parking lot and a third is just across Leland Road from the station, but there are no public paths connecting the cul-de-sacs to the station with the houses that abut the trees surrounding the parking lot a half-mile walk around via various roads to reach the station.
