No Hudson Line at GCT and the C Train Using R46s and R160s

Today I stopped at Grand Central to get a few photos of the lack of Hudson Line service. As I was getting off the subway I walked by every entrance into Grand Central and it wasn’t clear where you were supposed to flash your Metro-North ticket for the Subway Cross-Honoring to 242 Street. It turned out a few special trains were running to Yankee Stadium for a “Jay Z and Justin Timberlake” Concert on the Hudson Line. It still made a sad departure board. I also liked the notice on how to get to the Hudson Line’s bus shuttle from 242 Street with Take the “S” Train.

I then walked all the way over to Track 39 that is one of the loop tracks and historically was used by arriving long-distance trains, passing the closed on a Saturday night Kissing Room excuse me, Biltmore Room to check out if there was any crowd for the train. There were quite a few people, Metro-North tickets in hand taking that train.

I was then walking by TrainTime on the Information to Go kiosk and the Timberlake specials weren’t posted, there is a lack of Green:

MLB has stationed these silly ‘apples’ (one for all 30 teams and a few more) in honor of the All Star Game last week. Historical Apples for the New York Giants and Brooklyn Dodgers are fittingly in historic Grand Central. Remember back in those days baseball teams traveled by train although I have a feeling most trips began at the historic Pennsylvania Station instead of Grand Central with that railroad a bit more useful (the only cities with N.L. Teams served by the NY Central was Boston for the Braves, Cincinnati for the Reds, and Chicago for the Cubs).

I decided to head home via Lexington Avenue-53 Street(2 Photos) and got some of an R train running via the 6th Avenue Line again.

I took the next E train, running Express down 8th Avenue, the FIND was correct!

I decided to ride to 34th Street(4 Photos) to get the cross-platform transfer to the Uptown A Train.

Waiting, this R160 C train stopped on the Downtown Local Track, it had the correct via Delancey Street signs since Downtown A,C trains are running via the F Line into Brooklyn. This I have seen before because the C’s R32s (that have issues in the summer heat with A/Cs and the MTA likes to send them to outdoor lines) and currently being swapped with 8 car sets of R160s from the Jamaica Yard and J train of all paces.

As my the lights of my A train were visible, this took me by complete surprise on the Local Track.

Its a R46 C train like the swaps with the A that has occurred during previous summers. I didn’t know that they were going to replace the rest of the R32s this summer. Maybe I will get that R32 ride out to the Rockaways again!

I also got a couple better photos last week of R160s on the C train stopping at Jay Street(4 Photos) and this will conclude this Transit Adventure and Website Update post:
