Glenolden is a SEPTA station along the Wilmington/Newark Line on the Northeast Corridor. The station contains two low-level side platforms for the four-track line that begin just after the bridge over Glenolden Avenue and run southwest. The low-level platforms are of different lengths with the Philadelphia-bound platform able to accommodate about 3 cars, with the Delaware-bound platform significantly longer and able to accommodate five cars.
These platforms each contain a small parking lot along them. These parking lots are both accessed via driveways from Glendolen Avenue with the one to the Philadelphia-bound platform being particularly steep. The platforms each have a staircase down directly off the end of the platform to the sidewalk of Glendolen Avenue to provide the connection between the two platforms. The Glenolden Avenue bridge is a very low underpass for vehicles, clearance is just 10 feet 6 inches. A clearly added later concrete beam has been added along both sides of the bridge separate from the railroad ROW, to allow oversize vehicles not paying attention to simply damage the beam and not impact service on the entire Northeast Corridor.
Passenger amenities at the station are minimal. There is a modular white with turquoise trim in a container station house. A short flight of wooden steps leads up to it. It is open to a sales office and waiting room during weekday morning rush hours. There is also a black bus shelter next to it.
The Delaware-bound platform has minimal amenities for waiting passengers. There is just a tiny shelter (smaller than a regular bus shelter) set back from the platform on the path between station house and parking lot. When I visited in 2011 this was a decaying white domed shelter, when I passed through the station in 2024 it had been replaced by a more modern shelter with a marron gabled roof.
