Riverside is a River LINE station located in the historic Downtown of Riverside, New Jersey. This town still contains the historic 1930s brick and stucco depot, complete with a gabled-roof across Pavilion Avenue from the modern River LINE station. When I visited this station in 2012, the depot was Lourdes Medical Center Thrift Depot. During the COVID-19 pandemic the thrift store closed. In 2022 the depot reopened and became the new home of the Riverside Historical Society, complete with a Pennsylvania Railroad Keystone style sign outside, with Riverside in the middle and Historical Society above and below in the middle of the keystone.

The modern River LINE station is a two-track, two side platform station that begins at the angled grade-crossing of Pavilion Avenue, where it crosses the tracks at an angle and basically in the middle of crossing Zurbugg Way that begins to the south of the tracks and runs northeast along the Trenton-bound platform. On the north side of the tracks Lafayette Street ends along the northern side of this grade-crossing.

The simple platforms begin with ramps up from this grade-crossing at their southern ends. At the northern end of the platforms a pedestrian crossing connects them again but leads only to an exit to the northeast, this exit becomes the sidewalk of Zurbugg Way (Zurbugg Way’s sidewalk is basically the Trenton-bound platform before this), near the intersection of Kossuth Street.

Across Zurbugg Way, starting at its Southeast corner of Kossuth Street is the station’s closest free 78 space park and ride lot. The station has two additional free park & ride lots. One is across Pavilion Avenue; northwest of the station. This is where the pedestrian entrance to a 37 space parking lot is, with vehicular access only from Monroe Street. This lot is next to one of the station’s connecting bus stops. The final and largest parking lot contains 200 parking spaces and begins 630 feet down Zurbugg Way, with technically two parking lots bisected in the middle by Harrison Street that ends at a T-intersection of the tracks. This parking lot is on the edge of a wetland that is along Rancocas Creek. This creek separates the township of Riverside from the Township of Delanco. The Delanco station is only three-quarters of a railroad mile from this station but because of this wide creek and no pedestrian crossing along the Railroad Bridge across this creek, which has a blue arch across the main channel of the creek, it is a good mile walk between the two stations.
