Pawling is a stop on the Wassiac extension of the Harlem Line after electrified service ends at Southeast (Brewster North). Like the rest of the Wassaic Branch it usually receives service via a three Shoreliner Car and Locomotive shuttle train roughly every two hours from Southeast with only a one-seat ride during peak hours. The station is located in the center of a town that seems to be doing quite well compared to many downtowns. The railroad is definitely the reason the town cropped up and was built. The station itself has one high island platform that can fit about three cars for the single tracked line, parking lots for the town and the station are on both sides of the single track, a small house that was probably at one time the station house is now a chamber of commerce. I don't know where the low-level platform was at one time but it was probably much closer to the station house, until the high level platform was built and the station made wheelchair accessible in 1997.
