Arlington is an underground green line station and the first stop with a free crossover after the 'E' line joins the subway making it a bit of a transfer station. The stop has two side platforms with closed emergency exit fences between the tracks. Each platform has a staircase, escalator and elevator up to a small mezzanine area. This area has a small set of fare gates and lots of street stairs up to the street. Two street stairs lead out to the south side of Boylston Street on each side of Arlington Street. On the NW corner of the street there are two street stairs a short ways from each other along with the platform elevator right across form the street. The NW corner without a street stair is the Public Garden.
