Wyandanch is a LIRR Ronkonkoma Branch station that the MTA originally wanted to close during the branch’s electrification in the 1980s to speed up travel times. The station was spared demolition and instead received a simple 12 car platform before the start of electrified service in 1987. Starting in 2013 the parking lots around the station began to be developed into the Wyandanch Rising, a planned mixed-use transit oriented development community (plus a 500 space parking structure), with new 5 story mixed use buildings with businesses in the first level and apartments above. Before double-tracking opened in 2018 the station itself was completely rebuilt to have two side platforms, and a pedestrian overpass complete with elevators leading down to each platform.
1-2: October 25, 2014. This station I hope to revisit and see what Wyandanch Landing is like at some point in the future.
