Buhre Avenue is the second to last stop on the 6 train, with trains going around a final curve into the Pelham Bay Park terminal north of the station, not allowing views of trains switching tracks before entering the terminal. It is a simple elevated station with two side platforms for the 3 track line. The station was fully closed for rebuilding from July 5, 2014, to April 27, 2015 and received the typical renovations with green and cream colored windscreens, replacing the previous coregulated cream colored metal ones (that had advertisements) along with renovating the station house.
The stations two platforms are canopied for about three-quarters of their lengths. At each end they have low-rise fences painted black that pre-renovates included 1970s lamppost with metal, vertical Buhre signs on each of them.
To exit the station, two staircases lead down from each platform, at about the 3rd car from the front of a Pelham-bound train. These lead into a small station house with turnstiles. There are three streetstairs down to the street at the complex seven-way intersection of Westchester, Edison, and Buhre Avenues (all three go through the intersection) and Crosby Avenue that begins at this intersection. One streestair is to the south side of White Plains Road, along the very short stretch of street between Edison Avenue and Crosby Avenue. Two more streetstairs lead down to the northside of the seven-way intersection one down to the NW corner of Buhre Avenue and Westchester Avenue, and one to the NE corner of Westchester Avenue and Edison Avenue.
