Essex Street is a HBLR station located towards the southern end of Jersey City right along the Hudson Waterfront. It is the last stop before Bayonne Flyer trains begin their express runs to Bayonne (southbound trains stop at Liberty State Park, northbound trains don't). The station has two side platforms for the two-track line along one-way Essex Street between Green and Hudson Street. The sidewalk rises up to become the Hoboken-bound platform, the Bayonne-bound platform is in the middle of the street, right next to the single lane of traffic (with no parking available) that the street Essex Street become just south (in the direction of service, its west in reality) becomes the only portion of HBLR that is street running. Southbound trains share their track with a lane of traffic so Essex Street can have parking. There are some blocks preventing traffic from entering the northbound track on the one-way street.
