The County Center/Little Italy Station opened as a single station extension on July 1992 (I couldn't find an exact opening date). The extension was extremely short, this is only a few blocks north of Santa Fe Station, the pervious terminus, and just one block north of Ash Street the northern end of the long mainline rail platforms. The stop has two side platforms for the two track line on the east side of the main line railroad tracks used by Amtrak and the Coaster. These platforms run between the grade crossings with Beech Street and Cedar Streets. Each of these has two white bus stop-style shelters (with ads) covering two benches for waiting passengers.
From August 6 to October 14, 2012 the station was closed to add an additional 2 inches of height to the platforms for Low-Floor Trolley operations, The shelters were also replaced with more modern ones that have more glass.
