17th Street/SMC is a stop on the Expo Line, located in the median of Colorado Avenue. SMC in the station name is for Santa Monica College about a half-mile 10 minute walk down 17th Street south. The station has a single island platform for the two track line that begins with a ramp up from the grade-crossing of 17th Street and run west, ending at another ramp down to a pedestrian grade-crossing and crosswalks at a pedestrian traffic light to each side of Colorado Avenue, just east of 15th Court, 16th Street and 16th Court are also split into two streets by the station.
The station platform has the usual blue expo line canopy and shade structure running the length of the platform, plus additional canopies at the TVMs and Tap card readers at the top of the ramps at each platform entrance. South of the station, on the south side of Colorado Blvd, running from 17th Street to 16th Street is the station's 65 space $3 per day park & ride lot, with parking spaces on each side of one row. A plaza at the SW corner of Colorado Avenue and 17 Street along the parking lot contains extensive bicycle parking, including enclosed bike boxes, bike racks, and bikes from 3 different bike share companies when I visited in December 2019: Metro Bike Share, Santa Monica's Breeze Bike Share, and a painted area for dockless bike share parking with some electric Jump bikes inside.
Artwork: What you wore, What you wear by Carmen Argote are 16 large panels on the station platform showing abstract pictures of clothes.
