Nassau St-Jamaica Av Local (Except Peak Direction Weekdays)<Hewes Street
Hewes St is a typical Broadway (Brooklyn) elevated renovated local station, it has two side platforms for the three track line with the middle express track bypassing it. The Middle Track is used by all peak direction weekday J and Z trains, To Manhattan 7:00am to 1:00pm and from Manhattan from 1:30pm to 8:00pm. The J train stops at the station in the non-peak direction during these times and in both directions evenings, late nights and on weekends.
There is one station exit towards the western end of the station. Here a staircase leads down from each platform to a small renovated station house with a free crossunder, with two street stairs down to Broadway just west of Hooper Street. High Exit Turnstiles allow exiting passengers to bypass entering the station with the platform staircase leading directly to the street stair.
The remains of the station's namesake exit to Hewes Street were an emergency exit staircase down from each platform until this exit was reopened in November 2018. The reopened exits each consists of a staircase down from each platform to a High Entrance/Exit Turnstiles, before leading down to a streetstair. The streetstair from the Manhattan-bound platform leads down to the northside of Broadway on the very short block between Hewes Street and New Montrose Avenue. The Queens-bound platform streestair requires turning 180 degrees in the mezzanine area before leading down to the southside of Broadway across the street from this intersection, just east of this side of the street's intersection with Hewes Street, that isn't a normal 4-way intersection, with Hewes Street jogging slightly while crossing Broadway, and not being continuous.
