The Terminal 1 station is very similar to the other two domestic terminal stations. It has a single island platform, located alongside the domestic garage across from the terminal. From open air island platform two elevators, one at each end of the platform, along with a staircase combined with two escalators lead down to a lower mezzanine level. This mezzanine level provides access to a short pedestrian bridge over the arrival and departure roadways, leading directly inside a special upper level of the new Harvey Milk Terminal Building that basically only services the AirTrain and walkway to the parking garage, before escalators, an elevator and staircases lead down to the ticketing level below. In the opposite direction is the entrance to the Parking Garage and the rideshare staging and hailing area.

This station was closed from July 2021 to April 26, 2023, during the reconstruction of Terminal 1 into the modern Harvey Milk Terminal 1. This reconstruction replaced the former “South Terminal, later renamed terminal 1 that dated back to 1963. The station wasn’t modified during the reconstruction, the pedestrian bridge just didn’t connect to anything so having the station kept open would have led to more confusion, not less.
