Last week on my way back from my Far Rockaway LIRR trip I made a point to revisit the outer F Queens Blvd/Hillside Avenue line stations because my previous photo essay did not do them justice because they had few photos of entrances, I’m quite glad I did each stop has wide mezzanines (my favorite for photo essays, they seem like such wasted space usually) and its own little unique unrenovated quarks:
- 179 Street–(42 photos added) with its wavy trimline, light up signs and roofs over some of the 15 streetstairs (plus the elevator)
- Parsons Blvd–(30 photos added), with its telephone (hopefully now removed) on the ground
- Sutphin Blvd–(23 photos added), has a full-length mezzanine that wants to be divided into two with half a fence in the middle plus a mosaic that puts Brooklyn above Manhattan, and a sign for the LIRR (at its present station)
- Van Wyck Blvd–(28 photos added), this station serves a cemetery directly and long passageways must be used to reach any alive residences, although it is an excellent station for traffic reporters over the Van Wyck Expressway. There are also strange construction signs set up at the station. There is also a desk outside of the police station on the mezzanine
- 75 Avenue–(22 photos added), a long mezzanine with a token booth nowhere near any of the exits in the middle of it (no free crossover either)
Enjoy!
