Yesterday: Photo Essaying the Jerome Avenue el and Concourse Subway

Yesterday I set off to make the Bronx Section a bit more up to my new standards by photo essaying almost the entire Jerome Avenue el and Concourse Subway Lines. Two lines that are ridiculously close together. All the southern stations are an easy walk from each other The Concourse Subway was definitely built in an attempt to have the Jerome Avenue el torn down to remove more blighted elevated lines from the city. It never was and the local neighborhoods now have access to both West Side and Eastside Subway Lines.

Anyway, to begin my day I took the Bx11 to 170 Street. Took the 4 up one stop to Mt. Eden Avenue, walked via the 174-175 Street’s underpasses of the D stop I photo essayed earlier this week, and was able through a peephole to get a photo of the fully lighted abandoned exit at 175 Street. I continued on the 4 train getting off at Burnside Avenue, then walked up to 183 Street. Took the 4 up to Mosholu Parkway, got off and walked between the entrances. Then I made photo stops at Kingsbridge Road followed by Bedford Park Blvd. I then walked over to the D doing a photo essay of its station at Bedford Park Blvd. Then came a walk between the two exits (although 182-183 Streets is down to only one that is opened) at 205 Street, Kingsbridge Road, and 182-183 Streets. At 170 Street I did an incomplete photo essay due to a portion of the station I wish to come back too. Then it was time to meet and friend in Brooklyn so I walked over to the 4 train thinking about how I had just done a full loop.

Took the 4 to Borough Hall, then me and my friend walked all the way back to 30 Street in Manhattan for more evening activities got on the F train at 23 Street while waiting for the F and D train running local stopped in the station and took it to Delancey st Street-Essex Street where I re familiarized because I was early myself with the station so I can write its description page. Around 1:30 AM (today) I got back on the subway at Broadway-Lafayette had an uneventful ride not waiting too long for the train we ran local on 6th Avenue (switching after West 4, and at 34th onto the local track) and then ran express along Central Park West to 125 Street where I changed for the A train. I waited a good 25 minutes for the A train to come. Amusing myself watching the track workers on let’s sweep and pick up trash in the tracks duty. One person would go ahead with a broom, putting trash into piles. A team of two would pick up these piles with shovel and broom and into a bright orange (not black I guess for visibility) garbage bag. I finally got back to 181 Street at 3AM amazed I was the only person on the elevator up to 184 Street. Chatted with the elevator operator who told me that the train late at night is only every 20 minutes if your luckily, but often less frequent.

Total Swipes: 12 (one bus but a transfer anyway)
