SODO Station is located at street level along the King Metro Busway which is just west of the station and tracks here and just east of a short bike trail that follows the Light Rail line north to Stadium. The line here is at-grade but all street crossings are more substantial with bells and gates allowing for faster train speeds.
he station platforms themselves are two side platforms that have their own unique steel canopy structure running their entire lengths with two different sections where a canopy is present. All legal entry is from the southern end of the platforms where ramps lead down, after passing the required canopied TMVs and ORCA card readers to begin the fare paid zone, to a pedestrian level crossing with a railroad crossing bell and lights between the bike path and across the Busway, just north of the intersection (with its own level crossing of light rail line just before it rises onto an elevated structure across SoDo before entering the Mount Baker Tunnel) with Lander Street. At the entrance to the bike path (that serves the main station entrance) south of the station at Lander Street is Maid in USA a sculpture that looks like oversized tools to emphasize the manufacturing in the area around the station. There are also some bench forms with tools on them.
The northern ends of the platforms have emergency exits blocked by unopened gates, the one from the northbound platform leads directly to the bike path.
