Nautical Charts — Gowanus & Red Hook from 1733-1922; Fathom Points + Compass Bearings
By Alyson Shotz

This installation has two parts and evokes the maritime heritage of the Gowanus Canal that Smith-9th Street is built above. At the entrance are purple walls showing points of compasses, and the latitude of 40.25 that the station is located at. On the upper landing just beneath the platforms the recently re-installed windows have etched glass of historic nautical charts.
