The Historic and abandoned 1875 New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad's Windsor Locks Station consists of an abandoned two story brick building with a wooden overhanging roof along the railroad tracks near the intersection of Oak and Main Streets. The stop was abandoned in 1971 by the PennCentral Railroad and I assume that was when the tiny AmShelter station in a Park & Ride lot 1 mile south was opened. The station is on the National Register of Historic Places but all the windows have been boarded up with white boards (on the streetside) and red boards along the track. The former platform is basically gone with ballast spilling over most of it. There are broken steps down to it (with 8 steps) and other wooden platforms. There is the remains of a parking lot (in quite good condition) north of the station. There have been numerous proposals to redevelop the station but none have been followed through yet.
