Garfield Avenue has a bit of an interesting layout owning to the fact it is on level ground but along a hillside. The hillside also means that the southern, northbound platform has a fence to avoid passengers rolling down a grassy hillside. The northern West Side Avenue-bound platform is on level ground. The station has two side platforms with standard HBLR turquoise canopy on each platform, the one on the northbound platform is larger. The western end of the station is the standard HBLR ramps up to each platform along Randolph Ave that crosses the tracks at a grade crossing (and also connects the platforms). At the eastern end of the platforms Garfield Avenue crosses below the tracks and there are stairs as well as an elevator down to a plaza to the east side of the street from the West Side Avenue-bound platform.
