9th Street/Congress Street
9th Street/Congress Street is a unique Light Rail Station that is located at the bottom of the Hudson Palisades where trains are running along the Hoboken/Jersey City border. This station though has entrances from both the top of the Pallisades in Jersey City at Congress Street with an outdoor tower elevator shaft and Hoboken (9th Street) directly from local streets to the station.
The station has two side platforms with a grade crossing at each end and the normal single HBLR canopies along each platform. The northern grade crossing has leads to a small entrance area (with TVMs beneath their own canopy, making it a fare paid zone) and a walkway to 9th Street at Jackson Street. The southern end of the platforms along the southbound platform have a tall elevator shaft with green and brown supports and plenty of glass. This leads up to the top of the Palisades where an approximately 70 foot long enclosed pedestrian bridge leads west over to Patterson Plank Road at the top of the Palisades, it is just north of the T-intersection with Congress Street at the cliffs. A final exit is from a pedestrian walkway that leads south along the east, northbound platform to a final, third entrance from where 8th Street (Hoboken) curves to head south and loop around to 7th Street. Each of these three entrances has its own TVMs making the platforms and elevator/bridge structures all fare paid areas. This seems a bit of overkill since the elevators could provide a great community connector between Jersey City on top of the hill and Hoboken down below.
