Marine Grill Murals, ca. 1913, installed 2000, relocated 2011
Glazed terracotta murals and painted cast iron gate
By Frederick Dana Marsh

The Marine Grill Murals were originally created for the restaurant of the McAlpin Hotel on 34 Street. When this hotel was converted to a residential apartment building in 1989 they were preserved by the New York Landmarks Preservation Commission. Since they were in a style similar to lots of terra cotta work on the subway system they were incorporated into renovations to the Fulton Street station and 6 of the murals and the iron gate were incorporated to be on the ramps between the w levels of mezzanine between the A/C platform and 4/5 platforms.

The renovation of Fulton Street into the Fulton Transit Center, resulted in the murals and gate being removed in 2009 and then reinstalled in 2011 at the opposite end of the A/C station mezzanine. The murals are now partially around the new William Street entrance (the gate actually divides the within fare control area from the outside of fare control area) and in the A/C mezzanine area just beyond this entrance along the transfer corridor to and from 2/3 trains.
