87th is a stop located in the median of the Dan Ryan Expressway with the usual entirely canopied island platform. To leave the station there are doors at the northern end of the platform that lead immedately to turnstiles located at street level. Next is the original entrance with a separate but single staircase and an up escalator to the south side of 87th Street. Renovations have added a dark walkway which opened on December 11th, 2006 (Source) at the same level of the platform beneath 87th Street's overpass with simple low-fences. This leads to a single staircase up to their own small glass walled enclosure at to the northside of 87th Street.
