Cheltenham/79th Street is a South Chicago Branch station rebuilt in 2006 and consists of single island platform for the two track line that can fit 5-6 cars in the median of Exchange Avenue. This is the southernmost stop on Exchange Avenue, just south of the station, after crossing 79th Street, the tracks curve due south onto their own ROW the rest of the way to South Chicago-93rd Street. This platform has exits at both ends. The main, southern exit begins from the northern crosswalk of 79th Street with a ramp up into a small station house. The structure has grey walls with blue trim and a blue gabled roof. Inside the station house is a TVM, and Customer Information Phone (with a TYY). This station house has doors out to a blue canopy that covers about half the platform. There is an additional smaller blue canopy structure (with windscreens) near southwestern end of the platform. The northern end of the platform leads down some steps to a walkway between the tracks to the grade-crossing of 78th Street.
