The Long-Term Parking AirTrain station opened on May 5, 2021 as a 600 yard extension from the previous end of the line at the Rental Car Center, connecting the line to two previously built parking garage at the Long Term Parking Center. The station is a highly elevated station with a single platform for the two-track people-mover system. The rubber-tired people movers switch tracks using cross overs just before the station, although only one side of the platform is used in regular operations. The station feels much more modern and more similar to the Grand Hyatt at SFO station compared to the rest of the AirTrain system with modern-looking wooden benches and white decorative circular details surrounding the station’s columns.
To leave the station the platform continues about 150 feet beyond the ends of the people-mover stopping positions before turning 90 degrees to the left with a short final connection to Level 5 of Garage 2, with another skybridge beyond the station to Level 5 of Garage 1. Level 5 has some traveler amenities including restrooms that are also duplicated at level 1.
I successfully walked out of the parking garage (to avoid paying the extra ~$5.20 fare to Millbrae) via a sidewalk through the toll plaza and walked into San Bruno where the San Bruno Caltrain station is just a 20-minute walk, under a mile away, this did require crossing ramps of the 101 Freeway, but all crossings had sidewalks and traffic lights. This is the closest SFO AirTrain Station where walking out of the airport is possible!
