The historic Southern Pacific depot in Fresno was built in 1889 and was closed when Passenger service ended on the SP on the eve of Amtrak in 1971. It is built in the Queen Ann Style. Today it has been turned into a private office building with the only public view coming from its southern end on Tulare Street, where two tracks cross at a grade crossing. A cinderblock wall is along the tracks passing through the station along the former platform outside the depot so the sprawling one and two story building is mostly behind. Streetside of the building is a parking lot with two entrance areas both blocked off by electronic fences and another cinderblock wall between the depot and the Fresno Greyhound Station. North of the depot is an office storage facility with railroad terms written in the sides with Southern Pacific Lines and Pullman Cars. The interior has florescent lights and green tiles from that era. Nearby is another historic building in the mission style for the C Street Zone Substation. I don't know what it was used for but I wonder if it was once for Fresno's streetcars..
