Salt Lake Central is the downtown terminus of TRAX at the intermodal station and the main transfer point to FrontRunner Commuter Rail. It is the terminus of the short Hub Extension in downtown that opened on April 27, 2008 to connect TRAX with FrontRunner. The station is located on the west side of S 600 W, and consists of a central island platform and a side platform on the west side of the tracks alongside the transit center, where across a bit of a plaza (and beyond the tiny Amtrak Station) the FrontRunner and Amtrak platforms are found. The station platform has the standard two canopies over the middle platform with fewer fixtures on the side platform. Trains cross-over before the station, and there wheelchair ramps at all four corners of both platforms.
