Utica is extremely high on my list (along with Rochester, Amsterdam and Schenectady, all that remains for me on the Empire Corridor) hopefully along with a ride on the Adirondack Scenic Railway next summer, although I might just do an Amtrak layover before on another trip, I think that would be a really good trip for me and my grandmother. I'll keep Marcellus, NY in mind too if I'm ever driving in the area.

Hi Jeremiah, I found your website as I was searching for pics of old railroad cars of the past. I lived in Oriskany, NY (between Rome, NY and Utica, NY) and have lived in the area for the past 23 years. I am originally from the lower east side of Manhattan where I grew up, and love your site. I was reading about your trip to Syracuse on July 17, 2011, and looking at your pics from the Rome, NY station. I hope you have an opportunity to visit the Utica, NY station as it is classic and I like to think of it as a mini Grand Central. I am providing you a link about the station from YouTube which I think you will
find interesting. Just pasted the link in the url.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_X0f7-XNbI
The station opened in 1914 and has lots of history. The Utica station is also home to Dept of Motor Vehicles, as well as having an old fashion Men's Barber shop. At the terminal, you can also purchase tickets for Greyhound or Adirondack Trailways bus lines. On another note, I found a really wonderful little hidden treasure of a train station in Marcellus, NY (outside of Syracuse, NY which I hope you can visit next summer as it is only opened from June to October on Sundays from 2pm to 5pm) you will not be disappointed. If you want more info on this place, let me know. Thank you for a wonderful site! Sincerely, Kevin Sweetser
