Mill Ave/3rd St is a light rail station alongside West Third Street, a one block street, just before the line enters a meandering private ROW with many grade crossings through Downtown Tempe. Just west of the station and across Ash Avenue is the old Tempe Train Station that has been turned into a restaurant. East of the station the line passes on its own ROW between the town and Tempe Butte also known as A Mountain for the ASU A on it. The stop is unusual with side platforms for the two track line, these both begin just west of Mill Ave, the Mesa-bound platform is between the tracks and 3rd Street, the Phoenix-bound platform is beyond almost becoming a sidewalk although a flight of stairs leads down to the buildings. The west end of the platforms are midblock where the Mesa-bound platform has a track crossing only and the sidewalk continues. The Phoenix Metro does not use fencing so in reality people cross the tracks everywhere.
Public Art Program: Shadow Play by Catherine Widgery: It consists of extra canopy structures that give the station extra shadows compared to what the general shadows look like
