PSU South/SW 5th & Jackson opened as an 'infill' station of sorts on the MAX Green and Yellow Lines. The original terminus of the MAX Green and Yellow Lines was two blocks north at the PSU Urban Center/SW 5th & Mill when the line opened on August 30, 2009 but trains passed through the station area to reach the turn around loop just south of Jackson Street on opening day. This station wasn't completed due to the redevelopment of the block this station and it's sister station PSU South/SW 6th & College are along with the pair of stops finally opening on September 2, 2012, extending passenger service two blocks south.
The opening of the MAX Orange Line on September 12, 2015, extended service south of this station, with southbound Orange Line (most trains operate using through running with the Yellow Line) replacing all Yellow Line branding at this station. Green Line trains terminate at this station by continuing south to a track loop; this originally had three through siding tracks for laying over trains just south of the station. The southernmost siding track has been reconfigured in the northbound track of the Orange Line. On the south side of the loop tracks, beyond the southbound orange line track, is a modern metal lattice structure that surrounds some utility rooms and probably a crew quarters as well. The Orange Line continues south from this station, rejoining it's northern track pair for the rest of trip south to Milwaukie, just after the Green Line's turn-around, right across Jackson Street from the station.
This station has a sidewalk platform on 6th Avenue running from Jackson Street to the South to College Street to the north. The platform has three awnings protruding from the PSU University Pointe at College Station building. These awnings cover the station's 2 TVMs, benches are closer to the sidewalk/platform edge and have no covering.
