The fare control fence at the 23 Street entrance to the downtown platform was an experiment in this subway feature of design and is unique to this station but looks a lot like the standardized fencing chosen for installation with the replacement of all turnstiles for the start of MetroCards in the 1990s and is still extensively used today.
