For Want of a Nail, 2000: The Staircase Through the Sea

The staircase connecting the upper level uptown platform and lower level downtown platform at the southern end of the station provides a much-needed transition from the fossil world of the downstairs platform to the real animals and depiction of evolution of the upstairs platform. The staircase takes the rider through the sea and what looks like a fish tank. Some of the animals have the grey shadows stretching from them. This symbolizes the size of the animal the present day species evolved from.
