REACH — New York: An Urban Musical Instrument, 1996
by Christopher Janney

These are two rectangular green beams hanging from the top columns along both local tracks on both local platforms. The beams have a line of 8 vertical lights that have small holes beneath with senors in them. In between the beams and in a central box are various speakers. A hand activates the hole, illuminating the light above (and the one on the box on the opposite platform) and gives of a bunch of different noises from musical notes to the sounds of nature on both the speaker on the platform you touch the box and the opposite platform. It's a neat thing to explore waiting for a train.

Two sound samples: Sample 1 Sample 2
