East 55th East 55th Street is a simple RTA station in the section where the Light Rail Rapid Blue and Green Lines share trackage with the more Heavy Rail Red Line. The station has two long side platforms half of each is high-level for the Rapid Red Line trains, and the single overpass to the street is located at one end of this. At the other end some steps lead down to the low-level blue and green line platforms, for passengers wishing to change direction there is also a grade crossing here. There are no fare payment facilities in the station so all fares are paid onboard. Beyond a chain link fence on the westbound platforms is Rapid's East 55th Street Shops, their main shop and yard facility. All platforms are old fashioned and wooden.
