Sheridan is an 'express' stop on the North Side main line and has two island platforms that serve all four tracks. Rush hour Purple Line Express trains normally bypass the station but stop during Cubs games (the station is a third of a mile north of Wrigley field). They began doing this in 2007 instead of stopping at Addison to avoid unnecessary switching onto the express track that was required to serve that station. The station platforms are both made of wood and lack tactile warning strips. Towards the eastern (railway south) end of the platform is an old white canopy that covers about two cars. On the long exposed end of the platform with two on the Howard-bound platform and one on the loop-bound platform are bus shelters. These are black with white roofs to provide a bit more shelter for waiting passengers. The station lampposts though are all modern. To leave the station a single staircase leads down from each platform to a historic beaux-arts station house that is nestled beneath the elevated structure in the storefronts and has three white doors out to the west side of Sheridan Road.
