63rd is located in the median of the Dan Ryan Expressway with a hub of railroad activity viewable from the station. First, the four track NS Railway that is used by Amtrak's Michigan Routes plus the Lake Shore and Capital Limiteds cross over the middle of the station platform. Second, the el used by the Ashland/63rd branch of the Green Line is parallel to the station, near the now demolished Harvard Avenue Station, open until February 9, 1992. (Source). Durning the Green Line's reconstruction in the mid-1990s proposals were made to turn this station into a large transit center shared with the green line but the Harvard Station was demolished instead.

The station itself has the standard island platform totally covered by the clear bubble canopy. There is one exit at the southern end of the platform. Here doors lead to the standard station house with turnstiles on the level of the platform before there is a staircase and up escalator to the south sidewalk of 63rd Street.

During the closure of the Dan Ryan Line between May 19, 2003 and October 20, 20013 an elevator was installed in the station, it is located by the station house before the escalator and staircase.
