Morgan is the newest 'L' station and opened on May 18, 2012, after construction began in 2010 and cost $38 Million. As of September 2012 some of the maps on the CTA website still say even Opening Spring 2012 and plenty of maps on the actual 'L' System. The station though isn't really new but a rebuilding of a previous station on the same location which was in operation from 1893 to 1948 and was then completely demolished. The station has two side platforms with a canopy made of glass held up by simple white supports. The platform fence is relatively low (allowing a view out to the surrounding community). The main entrances are towards the western end of the platforms. Here are two tall 3 story silver mesh looking pillars. The CTA logo is predominately on the top of one of them. On the eastern side of the pillars is a glass walled elevator (one for each platform). These serve 3 levels, there is an upper level overpass with a glass roof but just two silver fences and no walls, the middle level is the platform and the bottom level is where directly along the SE and NE corners of Morgan and Lake Street are tiny fare control areas with a few turnstiles and simple metal booths for the customer assistants. Logos for CDOT (the Chicago Department of Transportation) are on the walls of the single set of entrance doors to each little fare control area. The mesh mainly covers the single staircase from the street to the platform and then up to the overpass. Silver letters are above the street spelling Morgan Station as an advertisement. There are axillary exits from each platform towards at their eastern ends (beyond these staircases is the only place where the platforms are left exposed for about a car length) here there is a high turnstile along each platform that leads to a staircase leads down to the west side of Sangamon Street at Lake.
