18th is an elevated station on the Pink Line on the portion of the line that goes south from the Green Line (and the Blue Line). It is one of just two stations (along with Polk on this north-south segment) that has side platforms on the branch. The stop was rebuilt in 1993 before the "Renew the Blue" project and looks like many on the green line. There are two platforms that have a canopies that runs for about four cars in the middle of the platform. White supports hold up this canopy that extends over the tracks with a clear dome roof formed by plexiglass over the tracks and simple with roofs over the platforms. To leave the station two staircases (that join into one at a tiny intermediate upper landing) and an elevator lead down from each platform to a modern fare control area at street level. Here doors lead out to the northside of 18th Street slightly west of Paulina Street. The walls in the middle of the platforms (where there are canopies) are either mesh or fully enclosed windscreens. These windscreens and the staircases are covered in decorative murals that look like they are almost graffiti. These are murals, a part of the Adopt-A-Station program by Francisco Mendoza, Gallery 37 students and the Mexican Museum of National Art, 1998.
