Schaumburg is a modern Milwaukee West Line Station with two low-level platforms. The platforms are each connected by a few pedestrian crossings, getting between the parking lots and drop-off areas on each side of the tracks is a 2 mile drive. The station itself is not near a town center. The inbound platform has a large modern brick station house with a clock tower feature. This platform has an indoor waiting area and coffee stand, along with a ticket agent opened for one weekday morning shift. A large outdoor covered waiting area is attached to the depot. The outbound platform has a decent sized passenger shelter in the same style as the main depot.

The station is surrounded by parking lots along both platforms. The inbound platform's parking lot leads back to an exit to Ryan Way near a suburban townhouse subdivision. The outbound platform has a larger parking lot which is shared with the Schaumburg Boomers Stadium north of the station. The minor league baseball stadium was built on a site originally purchased to woo the Chicago Cubs from Wrigley Field in the 1980s had they not come to terms with the City of Chicago for installing lights for night baseball. The station is just south of the IL-390 Eling-O'Hare Tollway. Both parking lots have nice large covered bike parking areas (and bike boxes), with signs on the Schaumburg bike trail network (primarily extra-wide sidewalks on suburban arterial roads) and a path that directly serves to the station from the north.
