National Street (Elgin) is one of three stations for the City of Elgin. The modern station is location on the site of the Elgin National Watch Company that closed in 1968 (I couldn't find an exact opening year). The station is near downtown but designed as a park and ride for cars, not providing convenient access to nearby attractions like the Grand Victoria Casino located on barge in the river, accessed by crossing the river via the National Street bridge and heading just a short ways north of the station. This is because all access (both car and pedestrian) is via the grade-crossing of National Street. The parking lots on both sides of the tracks begin immediately (they are long and narrow, just a single driveway and angled parking on both sides) but the platform isn't until the middle of the parking lot, not beginning for approximately 700 feet from the grade-crossing and station entrance. The two low-level platforms for the two-track line have a modern brick with a gabled roof station house in the middle of the inbound platform, with two smaller brick sheltered waiting areas towards each end of the inbound platform. These smaller shelters sevre double duty, covering a bench on one side and parking pay stations on the other. Passengers can cross the tracks at 3 pedestrian-crossings, one at each end and one in the middle of the platform.
