The Original Franklin Park Metra Station is not to be confused by the Belmont Avenue-Franklin Park Station on the North Central Service, located a half mile away. The station is just east of the B12 interlocking where the SOO Line, now owned by Canadian National. This interlocking is used by the Metra North Central Service to curve north, away from the Milwaukee West Line. The former Tower B-12 has been preserved and moved small plaza across Calwagner Street, just west of the station. This same plaza also includes a read Milwaukee Road Caboose.

The current station is along a rail line which has four tracks and a platform configuration that allows all except the southernmost track to platform. The northern platform is a side platform used by trains From Chicago. The middle two tracks share a very narrow platform with no signage or other amenities and are used by trains To Chicago. The station platforms are nestled between the grade-crossings of 25th Avenue and Calwagner Street, which provide access to each end of the island platform, along with a pedestrian crossing in the middle of the platforms.

The north side platform contains the station's small brick station house. Inside is a ticket office opened from 5:25am to 1:05pm Monday through Friday, which makes it the easternmost, closest to Chicago station on the Milwaukee District West Line to have a staffed ticket office.
