Northbrook is a Metra Milwaukee District North Station with two side offset side platforms. The inbound paltform begins at the grade-crossing of Shermer Road and runs south, while the outbound platform as two sections, split into two by Schmer Road. There is also a pedestrian crossing between the platforms farther south that is a pedestrian crossing of Walters Avenue split in two by the station. The inbound platform contains the station's brick station house. Outside is an entrance porch area (the inbound platform is at a slightly higher elevation than the parking lot next to it) with wooden Northbrook signs. Inside is a ticket office open for one weekday morning shift. Additional shelter for passengers is provided by an elaborate brick shelter with benches on the outbound platform, and a second smaller sheter farther north on the inbound platform.
