Champion opened as an infill station in March 24, 1997. The station starts at the intersection of Champion Court and run east with two side platforms, the only legal entrance is from this intersection. A low chain fence tries to keep trespassers from crossing the tracks in other places. The stop is surrounded by office parks owned by Cisco Systems. The stop is more modern than others along the original late 1980s line and closer to those that compose of the Mountain View extension beyond Old Ironsides. Each platform has a single green canopy structure with light green accents with windscreens. Decorating the station is Ecotech by Deborah Kennedy, 1997. It consists of sculptures of metal gears and other abstract shapes. There are other designs in the concrete (including some visible from the street) that holds up the green platform railings. At the entrances to each of the two platforms are stones with etchings on them that invoke the solar system.
